Sailor/captain extraordinaire, Jay Jackson, of the yacht 'Y Knot' came to Nautool looking for solutions for the lack of shade on the 80 footer. The centre cockpit was very large and open; and the helmsman was also exposed to the unrelenting sun. Jay wanted a bimini that could barely be seen and would stay up in any weather.
Jay is tall. He still needs to stand on the cockpit seat to see forward when anchoring, though, which means any bimini used has to be high. While sailing, the bimini needs to be low so a seated helmsman can have plenty of shade at any angle. A traditional bimini would not only take away from the beautiful lines of the yacht but, given the proportions, would also be extremely difficult to make.
Nautool decided that the answer was in supplying two biminis. They designed a helm bimini that telescoped to any height needed; and a large cockpit bimini that flowed with the lines of the boat. The awnings on both are rigid and of a material strong enough for the crew to walk on when working the sails.
Jay, his crew and his guests are now out of the sun and the rain and are extremely happy.
