Traditional folding biminis, while being convenient,don't give full cover; they restrict access to the cockpit and they don't withstand strong winds. Many charter and private yachts are now sporting fixed awnings,either stainless or brushed aluminium, custom made by Nautool.
Each awning is specifically designed for a particular boat and can include grab rails, winch cutouts and lighting. Aesthetics are considerably improved, as is access to the cockpit and resistance to high winds. Being of rigid construction, the awnings are strong enough to be walked on for furling the mainsail. Some awnings have been integrated into rear davit arches,solar panel supports, etc.
